StackGauge is a macOS menu-bar app that shows your Claude Code and Codex usage limits and spend. It reads each tool's local data so you can see how much of your 5-hour and weekly limits are left, what's blocking you, and what you're spending, all without leaving your workflow.
Claude Code and Codex. Connect either one or both. Each tool is authorized separately, and StackGauge keeps working normally if only one of them is installed.
For Claude Code, live limits arrive through its own local status-line integration, which StackGauge sets up for you when you grant access to Claude's folder once. Codex already records its own limits, so StackGauge only needs to read them. Run one request in either tool and your limits appear.
Whichever one is closest to stopping you, so the number you see is the one that matters. If you would rather it stayed on a particular tool, pin that one straight from its row in the menu.
Yes. Accounts billed per use don't report quota limits, so StackGauge shows your spend instead. That's estimated locally from your token usage, or exact if you connect an Anthropic Admin API key. The menu tells you which of the two you're seeing.
The estimate is reconstructed from local token counts times current model prices, so it's a close approximation. For the exact figure, connect an Admin API key and StackGauge shows your real billed cost from Anthropic.
Completely. StackGauge has no server of its own and works locally. It decodes only usage metadata like timestamps, model IDs, and token counts, and never the content of your prompts, responses, tools, or files. That applies to both Claude Code and Codex.
StackGauge requires macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
